The Appeal of North Myrtle Beach Houses

North Myrtle Beach houses offer a compelling choice for those who value space, privacy, and a sense of ownership. Houses come with several advantages over condos in the area. Let’s look below at what those are:

Space and Privacy – Houses typically provide more room than condos, making them an excellent fit for larger families or individuals who enjoy having extra entertaining, hobbies, or storage space.

Customization – With a house, you will have the freedom to personalize your living space. Whether landscaping, interior design, or home improvements, you can make your house unique. Design the perfect chef’s kitchen with state-of-the-art appliances, or add an extra bedroom to give you more space for guests.

Rental Income Potential – Many houses in North Myrtle Beach can be lucrative rental properties. They are ideal for accommodating extended families or groups of friends, offering versatility for generating rental income.

The Attraction of North Myrtle Beach Condos

Resort-Like Living – Many North Myrtle Beach condos offer on-site amenities right at your doorstep. You’ll have the opportunity to see what it’s like to have resort-like living experiences, such as pools, fitness centers, and direct access to the beach.

4 Home Projects to Tackle this Fall

Four tween girls sit in a circle on the sidewalk in front of a residential home with picket fence.

Fall is an excellent time of year to take on home improvement projects. The weather is a lot cooler, and the changing of the seasons helps provide a perfect opportunity to prepare your home for the winter months. Not only will it enhance functionality in your North Myrtle Beach home, but also comfort. Below are four home projects you can tackle this fall to prepare your home for winter.

Gutter Cleaning & Maintenance

Gutter cleaning is an essential maintenance task for all homeowners. It can help prevent water damage as the gutters help keep rainwater away from the roof and foundation of your home. The gutters may be clogged if the water is not draining. This is easy if you feel comfortable climbing a ladder and removing debris from the gutters. Trim any overhanging branches from any trees that may be causing the issue. Another thing you can install to help with the debris is gutter guards. You may want to check the gutters and downspouts to see if they have any holes. If they do, we suggest contacting a professional to help get those fixed.

Inspecting the Roof

Living on the coast of South Carolina can only mean the roof can sometimes take a beating. Roof inspections ensure your home’s roof’s safety, integrity, and longevity. Inspecting it regularly can help detect and address any issues before they become a big headache. Walk around your property and inspect the roof from the ground. Next, you will want to examine the roof from a ladder or let a professional do it. Check for missing or damaged shingles cracked, or worn-out seals around vent pipes or your chimney. Check for leaks inside your home for water damage on the ceilings, walls, and attic.

Weatherstripping and Insulation

wet window with water drops. damp is attacking the old window. damaged window needs of replacement, with rotting wood and peeling paint

Did you know that weatherstripping and insulation are essential for maintaining your home and energy efficiency? Weatherstripping seals gaps and cracks around your windows and doors. They help keep the outdoor elements out of your home, like rain, dust, and sand. Insulation is used to keep your home at a consistent temperature and can help keep the family cool every year in the summer and warm in the winter. Ensuring all the weatherstripping is still in working order and not cracked or torn this fall will help keep your home in order.

Outdoor Cleanup

Outdoor cleanup is essential to every home maintenance as it helps maintain your property’s curb appeal, safety, and functionality. While it can be done weekly, cleaning up around your home can be done twice a year as preventative maintenance. Some things you can work on outside your home are trimming the trees and shrubs, mowing the lawn until the grass is done growing, winterizing your outdoor plumbing, and more. Be sure to clean and store all your outdoor equipment, such as outdoor furniture, gardening tools, and hoses. Remember to prioritize safety during your outdoor cleanup using the appropriate tools and equipment. If you have a more significant task that may be out of your comfort zone, we suggest you call in a professional to help. Remember that outdoor maintenance keeps your property looking its best and helps prevent potential problems.

You prioritize these projects based on your home’s specific needs and skill level. By completing these tasks, you’re preparing your home for the fall and winter seasons and contributing to long-term maintenance and value. Don’t have a home in the North Myrtle Beach area, but you’re ready to start looking? Give us a call today to get started with one of our qualified agents.

4 Houseplants for your Vacation Rental

front porch at a beach home with two plants on either side of the door, a brown bench and a black door with decorative storm door.

One of the best and easiest ways to decorate the indoors of your vacation rental is with houseplants. Adding some greenery to your home will help add color and make it feel more like home to your guests. We at North Beach Realty have devised a short list below of which plants will work best in your home that not even your guests can kill.

Succulents

a small planter of flower arrangement, two small planters of succulents and one small planter of catus sitting on a windowsill and rain on the window

Succulent plants are a great color addition to your vacation rental. They are beautiful and take very little water each month to stay alive and well. A few options for use in your home are to add to a little terrarium or arrange them on a windowsill or your coffee table. Not only do they require to be watered twice a month, but they only require medium lighting, which makes them the perfect plant to add to your home. You can purchase them at any store like Lowes or Home Depot, or a local nursery will also have them.

Devil’s Ivy

Hang the pothos aka devil's ivy inside a home with green and heart shaped leaves, tan wall and white and blue planter

Another great plant to add to your vacation rental that is easy to take care of is what’s known as Devil’s Ivy. This plant is excellent whether on a bookshelf, coffee table, planter stand, or hanging up around the home. They thrive on plenty of sunshine and humidity, so adding to your beach home is a great idea! All you have to do is water them weekly, but we recommend not putting them in direct sunlight as it may make the soil too dry.

Majesty Palms

Since your vacation rental is at the beach, and a palm tree is too big to put inside, check out Majesty Palm. These are larger than the two plants above but perfect for empty corners, screened-in porches, or sunrooms. These plants need minimum care with weekly waterings and as much light as possible. Bring the outdoors indoors to help make your beach home as cozy as possible for your guests. Place your Majesty Palm into colorful planters such as pastel colors or something to match your décor.

Aloe Vera

Did you know Aloe Vera plants are perfect for any beach home? They are superb with any sunburn you may have and make a great addition to any home. These plants don’t need to be watered weekly, just monthly; they love bright sunlight or artificial light. Place them around your home in the kitchen, living room, sunroom, or bedroom to add color to any space. They can be easily found at any hardware store or nursery around the Grand Strand.

Many other plants will work and help bring a little piece of home into your vacation rental for your guests, but we wanted to share these with you. If you are still searching to find your next North Myrtle Beach vacation house to call your own, we have plenty to check out. Which plant will you be adding to your next beach house?

4 Things to Get Rid of Before Selling Your North Myrtle Beach Home

low view angle showing home for sale with an American Flag

Are you thinking of selling your home here in North Myrtle Beach soon? It’s always exciting when it comes to selling a first home or downsizing homes, but packing isn’t exciting. As you prepare your home for North Beach Realty to help sell your home, it may be time to start getting rid of things. We have the top 4 things to eliminate before listing your house below.

Items You Haven’t Used in Over a Year

Young girl packing up clothes to donate to get rid of items

We’ve all heard from our parents growing up that if you haven’t used or worn it, it may be time to get rid of it. Well, believe it or not, your parents were right on that exact theory. We all may have that sentimental items or items we may want to keep, but what about that ironing board you meant to use but didn’t? Or what about those clothes you saved thinking you’d wear them, but they are still hanging in your closet untouched? Instead of packing these unused items, why not just get rid of them? Sell them online, give them away to friends, or donate.

Freebies

Yes, we have all taken things home that may have been free because we thought, why not. But instead of lugging them to your new home, just get rid of them. That includes the toiletries you got from your honeymoon ten years ago or your free swag bag when you went to a festival. These items are replaceable; you do not need to hang on to them. Just toss them in the trash or donate them.

Just Junk

Messy Junk Drawer In Kitchen

Do you have a junk drawer in your kitchen or bathroom that keeps collecting junk? Most people with busy lives have at least one if not multiple, junk drawers. And for the most part, the drawers are random odds and ends that may not go to anything. Of course, the junk drawer may have important things, but to get your home ready to list, just trash most of that junk.

If It’s Broken, Just Throw it Away

Over the years, we often hang on to things we think we can fix, but in most cases, we can’t. If a chair is missing a spindle or that stool looks broken, throw it out. Go through the house while cleaning and organizing and see what you can keep vs. what is trash. This includes your garage because we are all guilty of owning something we say we’ll fix, but we never make time to do so. Take all your broken things to the dump, where you can put them where it belongs.

There are so many other things you can eliminate in your home to prepare you to list your home, but we wanted to share these with you. When you’re ready to start the selling process of your North Myrtle Beach home, give us a call! We are here, ready for you when you are!

4 Important Steps in Finding the Perfect Neighborhood

New detached houses in a residential district in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, USA on a sunny day.

Are you considering purchasing a new home or relocating to North Myrtle Beach? If the answer is yes, let us share some helpful tips with you. Now that you’ve decided to move to the area, allow one of our agents here at North Beach Realty to help you make the other big decision. See the four important steps in finding the perfect neighborhood below.

What Are Your Priorities

Now that you’ve decided to purchase a home in North Myrtle Beach, setting your priorities is next. This can be a big thing for many families as it helps us identify the best neighborhoods for your family. We may ask you questions: do you want to live in a small setting where everyone knows each other? Or would you like to live in a big community with endless things to do? After you answer those few questions, we can continue searching for your perfect new home.

What Type of Amenities do you Want

tropical pool in a community

The second thing that you will want to choose is the types of amenities the neighborhood may offer. Do you want to hang out at the neighborhood pool all summer? Does the community offer a clubhouse or a park that the kids can play in? Are there walking trails for you to enjoy? Once you have narrowed down what kind of amenities you’d like in the neighborhood will help us determine where we’d like to show you homes.

Are Kids Part of the Picture?

The third thing that we will ask you is if you have any kids in the family. Knowing this can help us picture the perfect neighborhood for you. Say you found the perfect home, but it is in a 55+ community. That is not ideal in purchasing if you have young kids. We will consider the ages of your children and locate a few homes close to excellent schools depending on their ages. Or we could find a home with many children in the community for your kids to make new friends and get along with them.

What is the Noise Level?

Irritated woman sit on sofa cover ears with hands annoyed by noisy neighborhood suffers from headache wishes silence.

The fourth thing we will check is what kind of noise level you are looking for. Do you want to be in a community with many bars, restaurants, or live entertainment? Are you looking for a quieter neighborhood where you can’t hear trains, planes, or traffic buzzing? This knowledge will help us find the perfect home in the ideal community that fits your needs and wants.

Once you have answered these questions above and are ready to make that move, give us a call. Our agents at North Beach Realty are ready to help you and your family find your perfect neighborhood here on the Grand Strand!

3 Fun Garden Projects the Kids Will Love

Spring is here on the Grand Strand, and it’s time to start thinking about planting your gardens for the year. Instead of working on the garden on your own, allow the kids to join in the fun and help out. We at North Beach Realty have come up with a few fun garden projects that the kids will love too. Let’s look at three different things that the kids can join to help make the gardens a little more fun.

Sandbox Gardens

If your kids are a little older and no longer use that sandbox that you purchased or built for them, we have the perfect solution. This year use the sandbox as an herb garden instead of letting it sit and collect water or other critters in it. Have the kids help you clean it out and add some new dirt and fresh mulch to it. Then let the kids pick out which herbs they want to grow in the sandbox and allow them to plant the seeds. Your kids will love taking care of the herbs and watching them grow into something they can eat.

Decorating Wooden Spoon Garden Markers

Another fun project that your kids can do to help get the garden ready this year is to make their markers—buying several wooden spoons from the local dollar store, painting them, and allowing each one to decorate them. If the child is old enough to write, have them write the name of the plant on each spoon. After they have been decorated, be sure to seal them with some polyacrylic to sit outside in the garden next to each plant. Think of the fun everyone will have by doing these cute markers for the garden!

Easy Bird Feeder

Little ones always love watching the birds come into the yard during the spring and summer months. Instead of putting out a regular bird feeder that you purchase from the store this year, allow your kids to make a new one to add to the garden. One easy bird feeder that your kids can make is using a 2-liter bottle. Cut the middle halfway down to make it more like a boat. Next, add some string to each end of the bottle and put some birdseed into the bottle. Now it’s time to hang in your yard or garden and let the kids watch the birds come to enjoy their food. What a great way to spend a rainy day by making something fun for their garden with the kids.

A Few Honorable Mentions

We didn’t want to stop with just three, so we wanted to mention a few more that the kids would love.

  • Eggshell Seed Starters – if you want to recycle your eggshells, why not use them as a seed starter? Add a little soil to the eggshell, put a seed in it, water it, and watch it sprout. Transfer it to the ground or a pot when it gets large enough.
  • Colander Hanging Baskets – who want to plant your flowers in an ordinary pot when you can use old colanders instead? If you’re looking for some colorful ones, check out local thrift stores and paint them with outdoor paint. Then add your plants, add some string, and water away.
  • Felt Gardens – for the younger kids in the family who are just too young to help with the garden, making them their very own garden out of felt is just the ticket. This way, they can grow their little garden and still enjoy it 365 days a year inside the home.

You and your kids can do many other fun projects to get your garden ready this spring, but these are a few we wanted to share with you. If you haven’t found your next dream home here in North Myrtle Beach, allow us at North Beach Realty to help you out. We look forward to hearing about what projects you and your family did this year.

Top 6 Spring Cleaning Tasks for your Home in North Myrtle Beach

Top 5 Spring Cleaning Tasks for your Home in North Myrtle Beach

Now that spring has arrived on the coast of South Carolina, it’s time for a little spring cleaning. As homeowners, there will always be things to do around your property during certain times of the year. Spring time is the best for many different tasks as you can get a head start for the summer months. If you are selling your home this summer, then doing these things this spring is essential to complete these maintenance tasks. Let’s look below at what our top 6 spring cleaning tasks you can do around your home.

Cleaning the Gutters

Top 5 Spring Cleaning Tasks for your Home in North Myrtle Beach

During the course of the winter months, you may notice that your gutters on your home are blocked with debris. While it may not be a favorite task to do as a homeowner, it can help you save money in the long run. A good cleaning of the gutters will help you in the long run so that there is no damage to your roof. Having a good runoff away from your home will help keep the pooling of water from forming at the base of your home. This can be a danger when it freezes or can even cause extensive damage to the foundation of your home as it sits. Just grab a ladder, gloves and a water hose to clean up the gutters.

Clean the Dryer Vents

This is a task that many homeowners forget to do anytime of the year but cleaning your dryer vents can help prevent a fire. Having dirty dryer vents can cause fires and this is something that you don’t want to happen. Taking a look at the vents on both the dryer and where it leaves your home is going to be the key. This task will take less than a few minutes to make sure that the vents are clean and not dirty to help prevent a fire later down the road.

Pressure Wash the Siding

Top 5 Spring Cleaning Tasks for your Home in North Myrtle Beach

November into early December is when you will stop mowing your lawn, but it’s also time to put the mower up for the season. Now that it’s spring time, it’s a good idea to make sure that you have your mower ready for the season. Check the spark plugs and cables and make sure that the blades are ready to cut the grass for the season. This can allow for a more evenly cut lawn without missing patches throughout the yard or having to go over the same spot a few times. It will also help save you money by getting the mower ready now rather than having to have it fixed later during the summer months.

Lawn Gear Ready

The fall and winter months can be a little rough on your home’s siding and can take a beating. From the rain and cold weather, it can cause for a few things to collect on the side of your home such as dirt, dust and algae. This can make your home look dirty and unattractive and can increase the wear on the siding when it’s not cleaned for months or even years. This can be an easy clean up with a little soap, brush and water hose to get it cleaned up. Or to make things a little simpler than renting or purchasing a pressure washer can be a better investment for years to come.

Clean & Re-Stain the Deck

Top 5 Spring Cleaning Tasks for your Home in North Myrtle Beach

Part of a good spring cleaning of your home would be to clean the deck of the dirt, dust and grime and re-stain it. This can help give your deck a new look by pressure washing the deck and can help make the wood last longer. Re-staining your deck will also help protect against the rain, sun and other elements outdoors. If you have a screened in porch, then this can also help preserve the wood and last longer without having to replace pieces of the deck later down the road. There are so many different color stains or even sealants that you can choose from, so just head to the hardware store and choose the one you like.

Update your First Aid Kits & Check Smoke Detectors

Two things often overlooked while doing a little spring cleaning are updating your first aid kits and checking your smoke detectors. This, for many, may seem like a hassle to check, but we, too, are guilty of not being diligent and checking even our own homes. Get your first aid kit together if you don’t have one and include some essential things like Band-Aids, antibiotic ointment, gauze, tape, Tylenol, Motrin, and medications for the kids, and we can’t forget about our pets. Also, check all your smoke detectors every six months, but if you forgot to do so, you might want to check them as soon as possible.

While there are many other things you can do to clean during this time of the year, we felt these are the best ones to tell you about. If you are thinking of placing your home for sale, we would love to help you and your family with the process. If you are in the search for a new home in the North Myrtle Beach area, we’d love to help you in that important search. We look forward to helping you and your family find the next best home this year!
